NYEC guidelines for moving from F1 to F2

NYEC Foundation School have drawn up the following outline guidance for doctors progressing to F2 and appointed to two year programmes in the NYEC foundation school:

  • Each year should be based in a different hospital/trust.
  • One year is aligned to a teaching hospital, and one year aligned to a district general hospital.
  • All two year programmes should contain an acute care post (A&E, acute medical admissions, or critical care/anaesthesia).
  • Ideally, all two year programmes should contain a primary care post.
  • All two year programmes should be equivalent for entry into ANY specialty training programme.
  • Programmes should have a variety of placements, with avoidance of unnecessary post duplication.
  • NYECFS F1s will be asked to select five choices for their F2 year.  These options will be based on the F1 post and in line with the MMC guidance.
  • To ensure fairness, it will not be permissible to select more than three F2 programmes from any one trust.
  • Priority for Hull and York F2 posts will go to F1 doctors in Grimsby, Scunthorpe, and Scarborough.  A small number of F1 doctors in Hull may be successfully matched to York and vice-versa dependent on demand.
  • Academic programmes have a different recruitment process, and will not be available through the matching process.  Details may be found in the vacancies section of this site and on the Yorkshire Deanery web site.
  • There may be occasion where an individual is placed into a second year programme for educational or personal reasons.  Such decisions will be made after consultation with educational supervisor/s, the programme director, and the director of school.
