Round 1
Step 1:
Applicants will receive an academic score from their medical school - these will be ranked in quartiles
Step 2a:
Applicants will complete AND SUBMIT their online application. Make sure you answer the question being asked, and don't ignore some that are in several parts
Step 2b:
Applicants will rank all the Foundation Schools. The first ranked School will score the application form.
Step 3:
The total score (academic + application) will be ranked to allocate each applicant to a foundation school.
- If the number of applicants placing a school first is less than the number of programmes available, all applicants will be accepted provided the application meets the minimum standards.
- If the number of programmes is less than the number of applicants placing the school first, applicants total scores will be ranked and the applicants will be placed until there are no programmes remaining.
Applicants unplaced will be offered to other schools in the order they were ranked by the applicant subject to their being unallocated places.
Round 2
Step 4:
A secondary process of programme allocation will then take place. NYECFS trusts expect to hold interviews for ALL applicants. Applicants attending for interview will be required to demonstrate that they meet the minimum standards for ENTRY in to Foundation training as set out by the GMC in Tomorrows Doctors. Subsequent appointment by the employing Trust will be subject to standard NHS HR regulations - CRB check, Occupational Health, and References.
Please note: interviews for posts commencing in August 2009 will take place on Wednesday 28 January 2009 and Monday 9 February 2009 in the HYMS Building, Hull Royal Infirmary.
Any applicant recruited to the NYEC Foundation School by this mechanism is guaranteed a 2 year programme.
Note: Allocation to programme will be based on the combined scores of the application form and the interview in equal proportion. Matching to programme will be managed locally by the School.
Progression to the second year (F2) is subject to compliance with the regulations of the Foundation Programme and the school: attainment of the F1 competencies, full registration with the GMC, and satisfactory assessments and appraisal.
Step 4x:
In the event that there are any remaining programmes after the national (online) matching scheme, an advert will be placed with the BMJ and on this web site.
Applicants appointed through this process will only be offered a one year programme and will need to make a separate application for an F2 programme in any Foundation School, subject to availability.
Transition to F2
Step 5:
In the NYEC Foundation School we do not allocate both years at the time of application. We recognise that views on the desired specialty changes during undergraduate and foundation training. We operate a collaborative matching scheme to determine F2 programme allocation in line with MMC guidance:
- the two years will provide a balanced programme.
- there should be a mix of teaching hospital and district hospital experience:
no one can spend both years in the same Trust/Hospital. - there should be a mix of primary care and secondary care.
No forms, no scoring and no ranking is used.
