York and North Yorkshire
Culture capital?
Manchester graduate,
NYECFS Trainee 06/08
Famous for its cultural heritage, cobbled streets and medieval Minster, with great shopping and nightlife to boot, York has been named the 2008 ‘Favorite UK city’ by the Telegraph travel awards. Its central geographical position means London is less than 2 hours away with Edinburgh just 2½ hours by train. Its hospital is in the CHKS top 40 awards for 2009 and 2011 making York a great place to live and work.

The Trust is a major part of the HYMS teaching Faculty, a role which extends into the Postgraduate teaching of Foundation trainees and beyond. Achieving Foundation status in 2007, York is a well equipped, modern hospital with approx 700 beds. The Hospital continues to redevelop its current site with the opening of new units including the head and neck unit, breast unit, cancer care centre, day unit and the Learning and Research Centre (LARC). Included in the comprehensive range of acute services provided on this site are a 64 bedded Maternity Unit, an 11 bedded Adult Critical Care Unit (including four high dependency beds), an 8 bedded Coronary Care Unit and an Emergency Medicine department.
