How do I apply for an F1 programme in the NYEC Foundation School?

All applications will be processed using an online system hosted through the UKFPO website (http://www.foundationprogramme.nhs.uk).  The application process is in two parts:

  • Applicants rank all Foundation SCHOOLS.  For applications for August 2010, the three foundation schools in this Deanery (NYEC, SY and WY) are considered as one Unit of Application (UoA).  Applicants wishing to apply to NYEC Foundation School should apply to the Yorkshire & the Humber Deanery (Y&tHD) Foundation Schools.
  • Application forms are scored by the first ranked School/UoA.  This score is added to the academic score from the University.  Applicants will then be ranked until or unless that number matches the number of vacancies within the school.
  • A secondary  process allocates applicants matched to the school/UoA in round one, to the F1 programmes within the school.
In the Y&tHD UoA this involves face to face interviews, and these scores together with the application form and academic scores determine priority for allocation to specific programmes.
Applicants to the Y&tHD UoA may select programmes from any of the three schools.  The F2 year will be spent in the same school as the allocated F1 programme.
  • If you are a non-UK graduate application is also through the national application system, but you MUST meet the eligibility criteria - www.foundationprogramme.nhs.uk

How do I know what my F2 programme will be?

NYEC Foundation School has an agreed progression scheme.  All doctors recruited through the national application scheme are guaranteed a two year programme (subject to adherence to school regulations and satisfactory assessment and appraisal).

NYEC Foundation School runs an online collaborative matching scheme for F2 allocation.  More details can be found in the recruitment section.

How do I apply for an F2 programme in NYEC if I have not done F1?

NYEC Foundation School currently has a small number of programmes in F2 which are not matched with F1.  This is to allow direct entry for doctors who are exempt from F1 (as determined by the GMC), but who are not yet eligible to apply for Specialty Training (ST or FTSTA).

Appointment will be by competitive application and selection.  These programmes will be advertised in the BMJ and on the NYECFS and Deanery web sites.

Are there any jobs which do not start in August?

Foundation Training is designed to have a synchronised start in August each year.  Occasionally there are opportunities for programmes which fall vacant for part of a year.  These may arise for a variety of reasons.

  • Appointments to any F1 part year programmes WILL NOT allow an applicant to reach completion of F1 competency.  Such appointees WILL NOT be granted progression into F2 within NYECFS, and will need to apply in open competition for a full F1 programme, or possibly an F2 programme subject to them meeting the entry criteria for F2.
  • Appointments to any F2 part year programmes MAY allow an applicant to reach completion of F2 competency, dependent on prior F2 experience, the duration of the appointment and satisfactory assessments and appraisals.

All such appointments will be by competitive application and selection.  These programmes will be advertised in the BMJ and on the NYECFS and Deanery web sites.
