MSF frequently asked questions

login problems

There is no option to log in as a MSF rater

Multisource feedback (MSF) is open for specified periods during the year.  If it is not open the option to log in as an assessor will not be available.  If you believe you should have access at other times, you need to speak to your Trust Foundation Administrator.

My email address is not recognised

Check you are using the correct email address.  Login details for MSF assessor and other roles are different (trainee or staff), and each may have a different password.

Email address typos are common - if you have not received an email requesting you to do MSF, it is likely the trainee has typed the address incorrectly, or is using an alternative email address.

My rater hasn't received an email request - can they still log in

Yes they can.  Although the email contains a short-cut link to the login page, simply go to the login page and type the email address AND select MSF assessor AND enter the password and login will proceed as normal.

It says my password is wrong

The passwords are different for each class of login.  Check that you have selected the correct login option (trainee/member of staff/MSF assessor). It must match the email address and password.  If it still gives an error select the 'email password' option and click the link in the email to set the right options for logging in.

assigning raters

The system logs out before I've entered all the raters details

The system is set to log out automatically if you don't load a page within a specified time (this is a security feature to protect you if you forget to log off manually).

You don't need to add all the raters in one go - add a few, submit the form (which will reset the logoff countdown timer), and then enter some more.  You can add or delete raters at any time unless they have submitted a report.  Remember, every action you perform generates an email to the appropriate users.

When I submit the form, the raters details are different to what I entered

If the rater is already registered in the system using the email address you provide, it will use the details currently recorded on their account.

The raters grade/profession is not right/different to what I entered

These raters already have registered accounts within the database.  The grade/profession shown is the last recorded information.  When they log in they will be asked to confirm their grade before completing the MSF, so it will be updated.

submitting multisource feedback

I don't see any trainees to select

Click the drop-down arrow next to the '-- select --' option and all trainees requesting MSF from you will be visible.

I can't find the trainee in the list

The trainee may have mistyped your email address - check with them.

The trainee may have entered a different email address - check with them or any other email accounts you have to see if there is a MSF request.

The system logs out before I've completed the form

The system is set to log out automatically if you don't load a page within a specified time (this is a security feature to protect you if you forget to log off manually).

You can save the form without having to submit it.  This allows you to have more time to complete it.  Each time you save the form, it will update the database, reload the form, and reset the automatic logoff countdown timer.

Can I do a MSF assessment if I've not done 'TOTT' training?

Yes, you can.  The Tools of the Trade (TOTT) training refers to DOPS, miniCEx, and CBD.  However, interpreting the results (educational supervisors) needs some training/explanation.  In this case consult your local FTPD.

MSF reports

How can I see the results of my MSF

Ensure that you have assigned your educational supervisor in the 'my account' page.

Ask your educational supervisor to review the report online and then 'release' the results to be viewed online by you (see below).

Log in as a trainee.

Go to the MSF section of the 'training' menu.

Select 'reports' in the MSF section menu.

Select the report you wish to view.
Any reports that are greyed out have not been released to you for viewing.  Usually reports that are more than 4 months old will be routinely released by the School.

How do I (Educational Supervisor) allow my trainee to see the report

Log in as a member of staff.

Go to the MSF section in the 'training' or 'tutors' section of the web site.

Select 'view trainee report' from the context menu.

Click the link in the top left of the report table to allow a trainee to see their MSF report.
