The Generic Skills principles taught in our foundation years are proving to be a very valuable asset in the difficulties we face as specialist trainees.

F1 recruitment August 2010 entry

Headlines

Following the Yorkshire and the Humber Deanery F1 interviews, 193 applicants were allocated to their first choice, with more than 50% one of their top 4 choices, and over 75% a top 30 choice.  Considering the number of posts (600 available) and the geographical diversity of the Deanery (>15,500 square kilometres), this is a very good outcome.

Information for applicants

2010 YHD interview scores (pop up)

Allocated applicants were notified via email of the breakdown of their interview scores.  Feedback on individual performances was not possible.  Graphs of the distribution of interview scores and a scatter plot of application v interview scores are now available (click thumbnails or select from menu on right).

2010 YHD scatter plot (pop up)

Allocation to programme was in rank order based on a total score made up from 1x Application Score (out of 60), 1x Academic score (out of 40) and 2x Interview Score (out of 60), making a total possible score of 220.  Where total scores were equal, ranking was determined by interview score, then academic score and finally application form score.  Where applicants could not be matched to their preference lists (i.e. they ranked beyond their submitted preference list), allocation was done randomly using the online allocation system.

The final allocation process was quality assured by a team of 8 staff and cross checked electronically and manually.

The programme allocated determined the Foundation School allocation for the full two years.
